This project was about the rehearsal studio Fazil's which is located in Times Square NYC. The dance studio caters to ethnic dancers. The rehearsal space is in a run down building. The sounds of flamenco dancers working on their footwork emanate from one room and mix with the sound of Greek music to accompany a belly dancer working on her craft. I was interested in the great diversity of people who were all working hard to improve their performances. I wanted to make timeless photographs that explored their intensity. Photographs that were not about what they looked like but more about who they become when they lose themselves in their dances and become the alter ego characters they created for themselves.
